Students are supported by on-site program coordinators who are available 24/7 to assist with any needs that arise. Whether you need help connecting with Italy Center staff, accessing medical care, or finding mental health resources, coordinators are there to guide you to the appropriate support.
Yes. Students can be referred to English-speaking psychologists and psychiatrists if mental health support is needed. These services are not included in the program fee, and students are responsible for any associated costs.
Students have access to care through the Italian public health system while participating in the Italy Center program. The Italy Center also works with a local English-speaking doctor who can provide care and referrals to specialists if needed. Program coordinators are available to help students navigate doctor visits, hospitals, or emergency rooms.
Bologna is generally considered a safe and welcoming city, especially for students. Like any urban area, it’s important to stay aware of your surroundings, particularly in crowded places and near the train station where petty theft (like pickpocketing) can occur. The Italy Center prioritizes student safety, with on-site staff available 24/7 for emergencies and support. During orientation, students are also provided with safety guidance and best practices for living and traveling in Italy.
If an emergency occurs outside of Bologna, program coordinators and the program director can provide guidance and recommendations remotely, but are not able to travel to assist in person. In these situations, it is important that students work directly with local authorities or emergency services for immediate support.
Students are responsible for handling their own transportation from the airport to The Social Hub. Prior to departure, detailed arrival instructions will be provided to help you navigate your way to Bologna. Program staff will also be available by phone if you need assistance during your arrival.
