BIO 110: Environmental Biology

Course description

In this course we will study the interrelationships between humans and their environment. The course furnishes an understanding of biological principles and the properties of life. It explores the fundamentals of ecology and their relevance to human impact on natural systems. This includes ecosystem structure and function, population dynamics, human impacts on the earth's natural resources, and “green” economics.

Learning objectives

During this course, you will be introduced to terminology and major concepts that are used to describe and understand living systems. We will address the interrelatedness and interdependence of living systems from the sub-cellular to the ecosystem level while studying important biological processes. Specific elements of plant biology are introduced as a vehicle for delivering environmental biology content. Students will learn about plants and plant products used by people for food, medicine, air depuration to better understand the role plants play in everyday life and to enable a greater appreciation for the natural world as it relates to the global community.
