Where do students live?

Students live at The Social Hub right outside of the city center of Bologna.

What amenities are included in the housing?

Housing includes a fully furnished double room with a private bathroom, Smart TV, air conditioning/climate control, bi-weekly cleaning with fresh linens, fast Wi-Fi, free laundry, and access to a fully equipped community kitchen. Students also have access to community amenities such as quiet study spaces, a fully equipped gym, sport classes, free bike sharing, an in-house restaurant/meal plan, welcome and social events, workshops, on-site staff, and 24/7 CCTV/security.

Will I have a roommate?

Yes. Students are typically housed in double rooms and should expect to have a roommate. Single rooms may be available on a limited basis, and students are responsible for any additional costs associated with single occupancy. In some cases, a student may be placed in a double room without a roommate depending on the group’s housing needs and gender breakdown, but this is never guaranteed.

How far is housing from class and city center?

The Social Hub is located just outside Bologna’s main city center. It is less than a 10-minute walk to Bologna Centrale train station and about 1.3 miles from Piazza Maggiore, Bologna’s main piazza. Classes are held at Poggeschi, which is about 1.7 miles from The Social Hub, or roughly a 40-minute walk.

Are meals included or will I be cooking?

Students receive a meal plan that includes two meals per day, five days per week. Weekend meals are not included. The meal plan can be used at the restaurant located in The Social Hub. Students also have access to a communal kitchen where they can cook meals or prepare their own food as needed.

Will I have support where I live?

Yes. Your program coordinators live on-site at The Social Hub and are available 24/7 for emergencies within Bologna. They are also there to support you day-to-day and help connect you with any resources you may need during your time abroad.

How are roommates assigned?

As part of the pre-departure process, students complete a housing questionnaire about their habits, interests, and room preferences. This information is used to match students with roommates in the Italy Center program who have similar responses. Students are housed only with other members of their Italy Center cohort and do not room with students outside the program.

Question 8

Can I room with a specific person?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Students may request to room with another student in their cohort on the housing questionnaire. To confirm the request, both students should list each other on their forms.
