BUS 301: Business Law

Course description

This course will give an introduction into many areas of the law such as constitutional law, contracts, torts, corporate law and merger and acquisitions. More specifically, this course will explore the most basic legal concepts related to law and business activities. Practical application and a comparative perspective between the common law system and the civil law system will be emphasized. Legal cases and recent developments will be analyzed to understand the application of the concepts. The course is specially designed for pre-law students.

Learning objectives

The course is designed to help you gather knowledge of the law with a business perspective. By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • understand the most fundamental legal concepts and issues related to constitutional law, contracts, torts, agency, partnership, corporations and m&a;

  • discuss different approaches to the most basic constitutional issues;

  • acknowledge the importance of national differences in terms of their legal systems for business, with specific reference to the difference between common law and civil law;

  • assess the role of law and institutions within a business setting.
