IDS 290: Interdisciplinary Special topics (Directed Undergraduate Research)
Course description
Independent research is a co-designed, co-led project with faculty at the student's home institution. The student registers for IDS 290 with the Italy Center, and makes arrangements with their home institution to transfer credits to a specific course they need credit for. Independent research is an academic research project which entails some hours observation and interviews at a local site, but no service or work hours. It is an academic project, with a long final paper at the end (7000 words). A qualified faculty member on the IC side oversees independent research projects, with added on site supervision by a local professional.
Learning objectives
By undertaking an Independent research and/or capstone project, you will learn to:
use diverse skills – such as planning, researching, writing, interviewing, media literacy;
actively engage in the local community, with the encouragement of an assigned Italy Center faculty advisor;
use your Italian language skills (regardless of your level of proficiency)
