ITA 381: Advanced Italian
Course description
This course is open to students who have already taken ITA 201 or equivalent at their home universities, and who wish to develop written and oral expression in Italian. The course also includes an intermediate-level review of Italian grammar. The content and instruction of the course focus on five fundamental elements of second language learning: reading, writing, listening, speaking, and cultural awareness. The aim is to refine communicative strategies for accurate expression of ideas. Particular emphasis is given to various aspects of Italian culture, through the aid of media (newspapers, magazines, films) and various activities. This course will be conducted entirely in Italian: English will not be spoken.
This course is designed to help you achieve the World-Readiness standards for learning languages as outlined by the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). ITA 381 will help you develop skills in speaking, listening, writing and reading Italian at the Intermediate-mid proficiency level as outlined by the ACTFL national standard guidelines of language proficiency.

Read texts on topics of personal and social interest, follow stories and descriptions about events
Write a wide variety of topics related to school, work and community in a generally organized way
Narrate and describe in all time frames, present, future and past
Produce language in simple paragraphs
